In an effort to incite an empathy revolution in our own hometown and, perhaps a little less hyperbolic, continue the fruitful dialogue that began this summer, the SOA Creative Writing Department (together with a few teachers at North Charleston High, Stall, Wando and the CCSD ESL program) is starting Charleston’s very first Narrative 4 Storytelling Exchange Program, a project that brings together students from a variety of ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds and asks them to listen and retell each other’s stories. But we need your help.
The funds raised will be used to cover travel and lodging costs for the two-to-three Narrative 4 associates who will train us in the program’s methodology during a day-longSaturday session. All you need to do is go to gofundme.com/n4charleston, and donate a few dollars. Every little bit helps.
In the end, you will be helping us create a safe space for students from a variety of backgrounds to share the experiences that have shaped their lives. You will be helping us help them to start the conversations that Charleston needs to have in continuing to reach across borders and heal our community.
