by Glenys Morton

They said
I was just supposed to
uncork my flame,
and fly,
shot across the sky
in a blazing trail of light
dimming the stars.
A firm grimace tightens
around them
as they wait for my return.
Gnawing at an endless sky,
I’m lost in stary shadows.
The earth flickers beneath me,
in and out
of my sight.
The only constant in my equation:
drowsy stars wink out,
peer through meteors
at me.
I bathe in lunar light.
